Exhibition – Ars Ex Machina – Navigation im Unsichtbaren
Martin Oeggerli
Mokka Rubin
Ringstrasse 16, 4600 Olten, Switzerland
Wed 23 Aug – Sun 10 Sep 2023
This exhibition shows selected facettes of Oeggerli’s work since 2011,
when Ai Weiwei invited him to the Gwangju Design Biennale.
While Martin Oeggerli is best known for his science photography work, he additionally explores new ways of artistic expression. Distancing from the single object and the perfect visualization of a specific – mostly scientific – topic, he develops a series of images that are framed through visual rules and increased abstraction. Revised series of images and the advances towards architectural and sculptural influences in his work bear witness to a new visual language and a new way to interpret ‚his‘ unique cosmos.
For this exhibition, Martin Oeggerli created for the first time a ‚reference and allusion board‘. With this board, the artist takes up the idea of the ’scrapbook‘ and turns it into a collage of memorabilia and clippings of what drives him as an artist. This modern scrapbook compiles and arranges objects representative of what is important to him, and how his works are created and perceived – with special attention to the artworks displayed in this exhibition.

Pollen – a serious card game

Card game (“Quartett”) exclusively produced by the artist for the art lovers and pollen sufferers alike.
This serious game combines science+art in a playful way, including 48 works or art from Martin Oeggerli’s 18 years long series about pollen.
Every grain put on stage, captured with a scanning-electron-microscope, masked and most carefully painted in post-processing, down to the smallest detail. Thereby, each card represents one species, one artwork, one pollen grain.
Cards include useful information about the plant and its allergenic potential, curated in collaboration with renowned experts.
Where can I get one?
